Search Engine Tips
Here's some
information you should look over.
Yes you worked and tried your best to submit to a search engine that will not post your site, answer your emails. What is wrong here, did you have a bad site , containing unrelated information or just smut. Well if you ruled that out then there must be some reason or explanation. You are very frustrated at this point.
Often the reason is you belong to a large Community like Geocities, Tripod, or Aol. Seems like a lot of garbage sites on these "community sites" are giving the person with a decent page a bum wrap. These are the phony money deals and sex machines that pour out tons of spam all over the net and then dump this sledge into the search engines with false sites , etc. Now all of us that just do the right thing get ruined by the number of false entries that go into these search eaters. A pure waste of their time and also putting your good posting up weeks, or months later due to the amount of wasted spider crawling.
I will put up a master list of the good guys, the tough guys, and those that are a necessary evil. The real important issue here is how can I post my url and make sure it will be posted. Just points to remember is to keep a central theme and use proper web-page construction. There are lots of other things like meta tags which are good to have but not really used totally by all search engines, however you need to have them for other engines. These tags are special description labels in your webpage (html) documents to point to the title, description, and keywords used in your website (These are the most common). Look at your own web page (usually edit html or source) and see if yours are correct. They will be at the top of your document (html) and marked in this way:
<TITLE> MY WEBSITE </TITLE>
<Meta Name="keywords" content="garden, shovels, etc">
Here is a link to get them and paste on your web page from Website Promote (they email back to you). Please put them in anyway as other engines do use them. So as not to get bogged down into other issues, other good pertinent information can be found throughout the net on preparation of your website. Also check your links and html with an online checker. A few excellent checkers like (Doctor Watson, or SiteInspector, etc),will go line by line to point out mistakes. However even if you do all these things to your pages, it will not guarantee a voyage on all search engines, but it helps in many cases!
Keep and save every email you get from the from search engines. This way you can check and see if your site was posted or you were wasting your time. Send emails to any search engine you are having problems with, the majority will answer you back. You may have to submit again sometimes but remember they get busy. Above all use the best courtesy in addressing any issues. Every search engine I have contacted has sent a response, except one. Keep a log of who and when and under what url you posted by date and url address!
One good thing to do is to get your own domain name. This is a website with a name you choose for example you want oceans.net ,but you have to check availability of name. Here is one site to check ****** UPDATED...USE DIRECTINC..Once approved of site name, you can register it. Excite and Yahoo seem to prefer domains over the regular community sites.
Do a search on some of these search
engines and look for community listings like Geocities. Tripod,
etc. and you will find mostly or only domain names. Get It!
