Search Engines and Directories in Review

September 10, 2009 Updates

While many search sites have closed or have changed their venues, my search engine group has been in business for 12 years and continues to promote web sites. What has worked for us is the fact that we are not Google, Yahoo, Msn, or Inktomi, we have right now as I am writing this 13 independent databases that we maintain. What this means is that we are like a vault when our search engine databases are spidered by everyone in the world. Our content is not the shadow of others and we can promote listings as we see fit. When I started this project in the mid 90's up until 5 years ago, search engines disappeared like the wind. We will be around for a long time and continue to promote web sites as inexpensive as we do..it simply works!!

The Search Engine is an important tool to get your website noticed and even more so if your site is commercial. The basic search engine builds traffic to your site in almost the same way a newspaper ad promotes items. Getting your website listed to these large databases is perhaps the best way to promote your site. Use of both good keywords and website description must be well used to attain the goals you seek on the net. Special attention must be used when submitting to the larger search engines concerning spamming (flooding) of entries and spamming of keywords throughout your sites content. All search engines are aware of this and will promptly dismiss your submission. In most cases spiders index your site and are able to detect this very easily. If you are having problems getting your site listed or are new to the internet please go to the extra help section or press this (go to section below help link) . For more information about what has happened to your site submission if it hasn't been accepted please go to this section to explain what might have happened. Remember to use meta tags!  When I spider sites for my engines,  its a blessing to see these tags..rather than a title "Index" and no descriptors being shown.

Here's what spiders see...........on a poorly defined web page.
<title>Index</title>

Now what is this page about? Damm if I know...... but now you know what to do. Put those meta tags in, give it a title, give it a description, and some keywords.....META TAGS DON'T LEAVE THEM OFF YOUR PAGE!....Here's a good site that is defined!

<title> The Capitol Steps Home Page </title>
<meta name="description" content="Music and political satire by The Capitol Steps, the Washington-based troupe of Congressional staffers turned songwriters.">
<meta name="keywords" content="politics, humor, satire, parody, political humor, political parody, political satire, musical satire, political scandals, campaign humor, campaign 2000, gore, bush, dubya, hillary, congress, election, scandal, dole, clinton, monica lewinsky, linda tripp, falwell, gates, capitol steps, capital steps">

New Users

New users go page by page and take the time to follow easy instructions. I suggest to everyone that you use note pad (not word pad, it will copy html) to copy your information so you don't type all day. Next copy these items it's easier and you won't make typo's. Type and copy to your note pad the following:

1.) type out your site name, next your url http://sample.net

2.) type out your email address

3) type out 15 word description of site

4) type out 25 word description of site

5) type out keywords app. 10-15 with commas

6) same thing without commas.

When you go to any site just copy and paste what they want! Doing this,  does two things, makes it faster, and also avoids making typo errors that can cost you.
