Some tricks you'll never hear about!
Getting a domain your own site for $30 for 2 years is an even better solution and insures listings in more search engines an directories than community sites ( some search engines and directories (Yahoo for example) only will take domain sites). Many of your larger search engines hardly even post community sites.
Put your "web site title" somewhere into your web page text. That way your title will always be picked up! For example my site is called "Chemical Laughter", I might say "chemical laughter is the ......:" (put it in your meta tags too.)! You'll find your site faster and so will others looking for your site!
Make sure your site title is also in your meta tags.... both description and keywords if possible. Many search engines search their databases differently and may not find your title unless you add these in.
Don't spam engines with multiple page entries, as they are eventually picked up and the webmaster will remove your site and every site associated with you. This is more serious now than ever!
Yahoo and Google go through all of your web pages and lists them. Make sure you have links going back and forth to each page.
Be sure to use the statement <frames> and <no frames> on your website if it contains frames!
Cut down on graphics on your index or homepage and add more text. . This is important as Excite looks for around 100words (2-3 paragraphs of text) to help determine your site contents. Doing this will enable your site to get listed through-out the Excite's family of search engines.
Make sure you have posted sites to like MSN/ Bing, even if you didn't get listed you may have been picked up by their spiders which use Inktomi.com...to add your listing to the Inktomi's big database!
